The best way to Stop Smoking? With Pleasure!
To get four long years, My partner and I tried every strategy to stop smoking … nothing worked. That was until I finally realised that I wasn’t using the most potent weapon in my toolbox.
Allow me to explain. When I first decided to stop smoking, my total emphasis was on my body. I felt I had to show ways to somehow trick my figure into not wanting to smoke any more. This way, it would be less agonizing… or so I thought.
So I began to cut back on how many I smoked each day… made sense, in my opinion, at the time. But after that had been unsuccessful, I came up with “plan B” and started smoking reduced tar and nicotine cigarettes. Yes… that’s the ticket! Correctly… soon I realized that had not been the ticket since I have been smoking twice as many since before. Next, I had this idea of transferring my behaviour from cigarettes to a water pipe… now, that’s the ticket!
Our logic? I thought I more than likely inhaled the smoke from the pipe, thus slowly fitness my body to becoming dependency free. That one did not make sense, as reality was fast to confirm. I began not just inhaling the pipe smoke cigarettes but continuing the smoke as well… brilliant!
After a year of this double peril, coughing became an everyday event, and even the mere act of breathing became unpleasant.
After a prayer and a long talk with myself, I presented quitting smoking as one very last desperate shot. And this period, I put my mind to it… I was all in. You see… this kind of ol’ student was eventually ready as the teacher does, indeed, appear.
I was instantly informed of the most powerful gun I eluded to previous… me.
Again… allow me to make it clear.
Thinking it through, My spouse and I realized my body (where, furthermore, I was focusing my energies) is nothing more than a slave to my thoughts. It carries out almost any task my mind directs the idea to do. On the other hand, my mind is Niagra ultra-super computer if you can. It can quickly solve any issue or achieve just about any task… providing it is completely saturated with the fuel this so craves… pleasure.
A few break it down. The mindless body has no living… it’s just a vegetable, for lack of a better term. Include an ultra-super computer (the mind), and you have the potential for a few actions… though no. Just look around… zombies are roaming everywhere.
Now… there’s a person. You are the programmer on the keyboard of your life. Your system, in this case, is a pleasure. You will recognize other brand names, for example, happiness, joy, thrills, well-being, delight… but the cause of this post; I’ll label it generic… pleasure.
This method, pleasure, is totally up to you to perform. It’s not easy, though. After you get the hang of it… the choices are endless. When the head is convinced that delight is imminent… nothing will wait in its way of getting it… very little.
This pleasure program is exceedingly versatile. It can be used for what you decide you want to have. But also, for this post, my goal is usually to save you four years of genuine hell and cut directly to the chase. It’s time for you to quit smoking. First… here is the reality.
• The only way to stop cigarette smoking is not to light up.
• The only way to not light up would be to want not to light up.
• The only way to want to not really light up is to have a darn good emotional reason in order to want not to light up.
Darn good emotional reasons to wish not to light up are paid for from the promise of pleasure.
Exactly how powerful is the motivation of enjoyment? Extremely powerful… as a matter of fact, this supersedes pain. Just request any smoker who decides to live with the pains linked to his addiction in exchange for short spurts of killer inhaled pleasure. Extremely unreasonable and illogical, you claim? Sure… but pleasure trumps everything. There are no restrictions.
Consider the pain and willpower runners undergo training for some sort of marathon. It’s the child’s participation because it’s exciting features of the high… the pleasure. After they’ve received it, they come running back for much more… no pun intended.
This is one many can connect with. There is no motivating factor more powerful than the pleasure of really liking. Some will move hills for it. Many would give their own life for it. I would capture a grenade for it.
Your brain not only works endlessly as well as effortlessly in pursuit of pleasures skilled but equally, if not more faithfully, for the ones convinced it is going to enjoy later.
So this is the task at hand… and it’s the mind game. You have to influence your mind of the many pleasures it will receive in turn for obtaining ways of keeping the body via lighting up a smoke… along with believing me, there are plenty of these people. Invest some time with this.
As you imagine reasons to stop smoking, associate individuals’ reasons with vivid, dynamic thoughts and feelings of pleasure. Remember… all about the promised delight… because you haven’t experienced these people yet. Both the reason plus the pleasure associated with it must get hand in hand, for their product can be your crutch, your inspiration, plus your fuel to see you before the pleasure.
Example of a nonemotional reason: I want to stop smoking to get more energy.
Example of a good emotional reason: I want to quit smoking, so I can quickly run and throw the football with the son in our front yard on the bright, crisp autumn mid-day without feeling the least bit exhausted or winded.
The more creativity and emotion you keep company with your reasons for quitting, the higher the odds of success.
Right now, throw away your lighter, get the football, and enjoy the fresh air.
